Mrs. Bobbie Hutchins Grace
Commissioner – City of Dania Beach

Bobbie Hutchins was born on September 29, 1945 in Donalsonville, Georgia to Willie Calvin
Hutchins, Sr. and the late Helen Williams Hutchins. She has two siblings, a sister and bother.
Bobbie attended Attucks Middle School and graduated from Attucks High School in 1963. She
married James Allen Grace and this union has lasted for 51 years. Bobbie and James are the
proud parents of two daughters, Denise Renna Grace George and the late Cheryl Lynette Grace.
Bobbie has a son-in-law, Bernard George, three grandsons and four great grandchildren. Bobbie
has been a member of the First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for 43 years and the Rev. G.
Bernard Pope is her pastor. She was employed by Southern Bell/Bell South/AT&T for 30 years
retiring in December of 1997.
She served on the Dania Economic Development Corporation Board for over 24 years;
Broward Planning Council; Charter Review Board of Broward County; Norwest Byrd Pointe
Civic Association; Dania Beach Men and Women’s Club and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Committee in Dania Beach for over 18 years.
She was an elected official from 1989-1996 an under her leadership 82 new single family
homes and two senior citizen buildings were constructed. Bobbie was instrumental in providing
support which resulted in a new pool being installed at C.W. Thomas Park and implementation of
a Latch Key Program at Collins Elementary School. Other major projects include a new pier in
Dania Beach and sidewalks and new street lights for the community.
Her awards include: Citizen of the Year LES Community Leader (1980); Pride Community
Leader (1981); Beyond The Call Of Duty Bell South (1982); 100 Black Women of Broward
County (1983); Bethel Baptist Church Woman Of The Year (1984); MUPA Lifetime
Achievement Award (1985); Attucks Eagle Knowledge Award Class of 1963 (1986); Champion
Award Northwest/Northwest Byrd Point (1987); Community Award Dania Activity Committee
(1988); Venus Club of Fort Lauderdale Community Award (1992); Broward County Women’s
Hall of Fame (1995); Attucks All School Reunion Leadership Award (1996); President Award
Central Broward County Kiwanis (1999-2000); Attucks Alumni Award (2004); Broward County
Pioneer Award (2005); MUPA Community Leader Award Dania Beach (2006); Attucks High
School Knowledge Bowl Award (2007); Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award City of Dania Beach
(2008); Churches United Hollywood & Dania Beach (2009); Collins Elementary School Career
Day Award (2010); Finer Womanhood & Dedicated Community Service Award (2010); Attucks
High School Alumni Certificate (2012); Tamara James Community Service Award (2012); Care
Foundation Certificate of Sponsorship and Volunteerism (2013); Lions International Presidents
Award for dedication of service (August 15, 2015); Collins Elementary School Award for

appreciation for unwavering dedication (January 27, 2016); Dania Beach Lions Club Community
Service Award (August 20, 2016); Excellent Service to our Community Award from Judith
Barnes, JB Couture (December 11, 2016); Dania Beach Women’s Club named Humanitarian of
the Year (February 2017); Greater Mt. Zion AME 108th Anniversary Invaluable Service Award
(February 2017).
On April 13, 2010 she was elected to the Dania Beach City Commission and she served at the
Vice Mayor for the City of Dania Beach. In 2011 Bobbie was re-elected to the Dania Beach City
Commission for a 4 year term. On November 4, 2014 she was re-elected as Vice Mayor and will
serve a 4 year term.
Her motto is: “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand”.
